Change and Flexibility: Redesigning Teaching

A paper we submitted to SIGCSE (99 or 2000) that didn’t get accepted. The abstract follows.
Since 1994 the student cohort at Central Queensland University (CQU) has undergone drastic change in ability, culture and mode of attendance. This paper describes a project attempting to address the problems caused by these changes. The project has developed alternative teaching approaches and material including animations, online lectures, a Web site mirrored on CD−ROM, the use of BACI and modified assessment strategies. Early experience shows that these approaches appear to be more flexible and improve the learning experience of some students.
